4 In-Your-Face Truths about Missions 2

1. The responsibility to complete the Great Commission is personal, not just corporate.  Jesus said, “You (yes, YOU) are my witnesses…”

2. You must work both locally and globally if you take Jesus’ words seriously.  In Acts 13, the first missionary journey of Paul began.  As he was sent from the city of Antioch, what if someone had said, “Why are we spending all this money and effort sending Paul to faraway places, when there are still lost and needy people right here in our city?”  The answer isn’t either-or, it is both-and.  And then some more.

3. Missions is not a unique calling for a select few, it is the primary earthly calling of every Christian believer.  The question was never, “Do you want to be a missionary?” it is instead, “How effective a missionary are you?”

4. The Holy Spirit empowers you for this mission – you don’t have to be exceptionally qualified, trained, or wealthy.  You do have to be willing, obedient, and surrendered to God.

Ready to get started?

Read // 2 Corinthians 5:20.

Pray // God, give me an opportunity to be a light.

Ask // Pastor, what does our church offer that will help me share the gospel?

Give // To overseas mission work.  Start with www.iglworld.com/125

Go // To work, school, neighborhood, group, team, web, wherever.

Don’t know what to say?  John 3:16 is a good start.  Don’t be afraid to bring up matters of faith even if you aren’t an expert.  You can always say, “I don’t know” if someone asks you something you don’t know.  Just tell your story of how God has worked in your life, and see where things go from there.
